He has freed the total of solo albums on the Island Records label, and Atlantic Records. Around 1977, he performed with Frank Zappa, appearing in Zappa's 1979 concert film Baby Snakes. He as well supported David Bowie at several tours in a period of the late 70s & early 80s when lead guitar player & backing vocals. Belew is heard on the 1980 album Remain in Light by the Talking Heads; Lights Out by Peter Wolf; and Paul Simon's landmark Graceland. He worked by using Laurie Anderson during the mid-1980s, appearing within her concert film Home of the Brave and contributed to two Nine Inch Nails albums, The Downward Spiral and The Fragile. He features conspicuously in Tori Amos's 2001 cover album, "Strange Little Girls". He too contributed his lead guitar stylings to Porcupine Tree's latest album, Deadwing (2005).
